with Julie Sullivan

Tuesday, October 2, 6-9 pm, $35.- all materials included.
Make a 6"x 12" braided wool rug center while 
learning history and different techniques.
(This can be the center of a larger rug, which would be finished consecutive Tuesday nights for $5. per session + cost of extra wool).
Must RSVP to choose color range of wool ahead of time.

Starting Tuesday, October 9: Oil Painting Class in the 

Bob Ross method with Dick Goedge

Choice of 4-6 pm or 7-9 pm class. Oil Painting Class in the Bob Ross Method with Dick Goedge. (6 weeks of classes, finish 3 paintings, $25.- each two week session, includes materials). RSVP required

Starting Tuesday, October 30: Prodded T-shirt Rag Rug

with Julie Sullivan

Learn to make a prodded t-shirt in burlap rug using your old t-shirts. Bring at least 10 or more medium to heavy weight t-shirts or mid-weight fleece. Bring shears. Think of basic design and colors and bring those with you. Finished rugs approximately 20" x 24". This will take 4-6 classes to complete. Rest of materials provided. $60.- RSVP by October 23, class starts Tuesday, October 30, 6 pm. Tuesday Night Beginning Mosaic Class  with Molly Moblo Perusse Can start any Tuesday night with pre-registration. Beginning direct application mosaic class with Molly Moblo Perusse. Learn to cut, design, glue and grout a mosaic picture on a flat wood surface. $60.- all materials included. Come with a basic idea. Class lasts approximately 6 weeks depending on complexity of design. RSVP required.

Magical Reinvention

 This is a mosaic sculpture class held at A Work of Art Studio in the months of June- September, 2012, where the clients designed and made their own dragonflies (fish and frogs and flowers to come in another post). Here is Robin creating her body and wings with wire screen, wire and then tape to give it shape and form. Great care must be taken to create a solid form to carry all the weight of the plaster, cement, glass, and grout.

Here is Kathryn's dragonfly "Seymour", with washers for the base of his eyes. It is not really necessary to tape over the wire screen, but it does give a good solid base for beginners to plaster over.

Here is Pat, putting on a layer of plaster gauze to start stiffening the sculpture; then she paints on a layer of thinset mortar.

It is now ready for laying mosaic tiles. We mostly used Weldbond glue to attach our tiles, but thinset mortar could also be used as adhesive.

Kathryn drew a pattern on her wings to mimic a Zebra Dragonfly.

What a great class. It's a bit different to mosaic on a cement surface and I recommend a flat surface beginner's class before you tackle a layered surface. More posts to come about this same class with shapes of fish, flowers, and more....

by making about 2 pounds of soap. First week make

month). We will use milk or green tea for the base with

Hand Sculpted Clay Class

"It was beautiful not despite but because of the friction it has had to endure. It had been thrashed around, but instead of being destroyed, it was improved with every scratch and scrape, sculpted. In fact, the scuffs themselves are what gave it its quiet splendor; they are responsible for turning a simple piece of glass (which could have just as easily been trash) into a gem.
